My Honest NameHero Review 2024 – Do Not Buy Until You Read

David’s Take

My Rating

I rate it 9.5 out of 10.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a host this fast for this cheap, and I’ve been making websites for a long time (over 10 years).
I really don’t know how not many people know about Namehero. It’s like a well-kept secret hosting for speed geeks (a secret they don’t want to share!)

NameHero is a newer hosting provider on the scene, but they have been providing some of the best specs for the money, awesome customer support, and utilizing the Uber-fast LiteSpeed web servers. I think this is perfect for beginners starting out, or those with a budget but also want a super fast web host.

The best part is, all their hosting plans come with LiteSpeed servers but if you get their Turbo plan, it includes NVMe storage which can be significantly faster than SSD storage.
Overall, awesome hosting to get started with!

Who is NameHero Best For?

IMHO, it’s best for beginners and also speed maniacs.

Why is NameHero the Best?

TL;DR –

Cheap, and a cost-effective way to get a speedy site. One of the best web hosting I’ve tested, especially for cheap hosting.

Pound for pound, I think I haven’t seen a cheaper host that provides the speed that Namehero does.

Speed is also one of the factors that affects SEO and Google rankings, so it can also help businesses and entrepreneurs who want to increase their SERP rankings. And with namehero, speed is the name of the game.

They have cheap, shared hosting plans and provide 1-click Wordpress hosting installations.

NameHero Review Benefits

The Namehero Web Host Breakdown

Versus most hosting options like Sitegorund, A2, and Bluehost you get more bang for the buck like the following:

  • Additional CPU and RAM for cheaper the price
  • While A2 Hosting uses LiteSpeed Tech on higher plans, NameHero uses it on ALL their web hosting plans
  • Namehero web hosting uses NVMe storage on their higher plans when most other hosts provide only SSDs.

Brief History of NameHero

Name Hero was founded in 2015 and has recently grown to be one of the go-to hosts for speed. The company was built by a few digital entrepreneurs who wanted to make Namehero fast, easy, and safe with the most advanced hosting tech – and they wanted to do it all – affordably.

Namehero is also well known for providing training on starting up a blog and monetizing your blog with digital marketing.

They’ve been seen in many conferences such as Affiliate Summit, AdTech, and Hostingcon.

They even have a NameHero YouTube channel where you can see the face of their CEO, Ryan.

And as the leader sits at the centerpiece of the business, the business will reflect his character. And I can tell that he’s an honest person and a real down-to-earth dude.

They have come a long way, and I can only see an upwards projection because they are providing an incredible service to entrepreneurs all over the world, especially those beginning in their journey.

NameHero Review: Pros & Cons

NameHero Pros:

  • Built with proprietary tech, so that competitors don’t have access to their secret speed formula.
  • Dependable. Offers an insane 99.99% uptime.
  • Cheap, Yet Fast.
  • Super easy cPanel & WordPress integration
  • Includes nightly & weekly backups (other hosts charge for this)
  • LiteSpeed web server is included in ALL plans.
  • One of the cheapest introductory prices, if you opt for 1-3 years.
  • NVMe storage comes standard on the higher plans (Turbo + Business Cloud)
  • Also on Turbo & Business plans, includes 1-year free domain registration, premium SSL, enhanced security, and additional speed boost.
  • Less scheduled maintenance and downtimes when compared to other web hosts.
  • Namehero support is awesome, especially for shared hosting at this price.
  • Ryan, the CEO is a solid, down-to-earth individual.
  • Comes with 30-day money back guarantee on all plans

NameHero Cons:

  • Since it is a “budget” host, their support isn’t the greatest (check out WPX for best support)
  • They only have datacenters located in the US and Netherlands
  • Namehero recorded a 2-day downtime in November of 2021 (but the CEO posted an apology & the reasoning in a post).
  • Have to sign up for 3 years for the cheapest price. ($2.15/month)
  • It says the word “cloud” but it’s really shared hosting.
  • Starter & Plus plans (the lower 2) don’t come with NVMe storage.
  • After initial 1-3 years, higher price for renewal (an industry standard with most hosting companies).

Namehero Performance

I’m going to divide performance into a few sections:

  • Uptime
  • Servers
  • CDN – Cloudflare
  • Security

Namehero Uptime Performance

Namehero boasts an industry leading 99.99% uptime for their hosting sites.

The cool thing is, Namehero is very transparent and has a dedicated network status page that shows you the status of the servers at any time.
Namehero Network Status Page
In my experience, they have higher uptimes when compared to similar hosts of similar pricing and have less maintenances periods.

Uptime tests are usually not apples to apples, because it depends on what plan you purchase, the server, the location, etc.

Onlinemediamasters has a great guide to lookout for regarding down time:

  • The length of the outage
  • If they have a status page or not
  • What was their response, if any
  • And routine maintenance length/status

So I spoke about how transparent namehero was with their uptime status, but when there was a pretty big outage at Namehero in December 2021 (which lasted for about 2 days), the founder, Ryan posted a lengthy remark about the details of the outage and what happened during that time.

He even includes a timeline of the events that occurred and takes full responsibility for the outage like a great founder & leader. You can read the full post here.

Namehero Heartfelt Letter

Interesting Fact:
A lot of hosting companies will state in their terms & conditions that “scheduled maintenance” is NOT part of their uptime guarantee. So these companies can advertise 99.98% or 99.99% uptime but have “scheduled” downtime periods that don’t count towards this guarantee.

Namehero Server Performance (LiteSpeed Server)

Namehero provides LiteSpeed server on all of their plans, not just some, like other hosting companies.

An awesome speed combo is using the following together:
LiteSpeed server + LiteSpeed Cache + QUIC.cloud CDN

One of the fastest ways to buff up your shared hosting!

The chart below shows Wordpress performance by Server and LiteSpeed is far, far ahead of the competition! It is up to 12x faster!

NameHero LiteSpeed Performance

LiteSpeed is faster than NGINX and Apache (source: LiteSpeed)

Because of this speed, LiteSpeed has a cache plugin that has now been downloaded by over 3 million users!

LiteSpeed Cache Plugin

This is a Wordpress Plugin that optimizes your site for speed.

It makes various optimizations to your site including:
Caching, image optimizations, CSS, JS, and many more!

  • It addresses core web vitals for better rankings on the search engines (better user experience)
  • It has an uber fast server-side caching better than its competition (link, wprocket)
  • The plugin optimizes for real-life browsing speed compared to just “speed scores.”
  • Doesn’t have compatibility issues like some of its competitors.

CDN

CDN stands for Content Delivery Network and it’s a system of distributed servers geographically located all over the world that work in harmony to provide faster delivery of internet content.

The best free CDN, and most popular is Cloudflare.

QUIC.cloud (tutorial below from Namehero) also comes with a free CDN plan, but their free plan only comes with 6 PoPs (stands for Points of Presence), in other words, only 6 geographical locations around the world.

Compare this to their paid plan which uses all of their 73 PoPs and also comes with DDoS attack protection.

Their paid plan costs between $0.02 – $0.08 per GB and is based on a credit system where you can purchase 1000 credits for $1.

Name Hero Global TTFB

TTFB stands for Time to First Byte and it measures the responsiveness of a server and how long it takes to connect.

Web.dev says that most sites should strive to have a TTFB of 0.8 seconds or less.

You can measure it here:
Test Your TTFB

Here are a few user tests, using Name Hero hosting,

  • Average Global TTFB:
    433 MS
  • Average New York TTFB
    100 MS
  • Average San Francisco TTFB
    237 MS
  • Average Dallas TTFB
    113 MS
  • Average Tokyo TTFB
    491 MS
  • Average Sydney TTFB
    1 S

Source: Hostingstep

Of course, the TTFB by location depends on where your Datacenter is located, but this is what you can expect from each server.

Using a CDN also impacts this score, and from my experience, it can help reduce this speed even further.

But, Name Hero hosting has some awesome TTFB speeds that trump any other shared website hosting I’ve seen!

Name Hero Hosting Review – Security

Namehero uses what is known as their Namehero Security shield which they state is a AI-powered total protection system.

Included in their security shield are:

  • Their machine learning firewall detects attacks in real-time before they even happen
  • Real-time malware scanner that detects potential malware as they are being uploaded
  • Brute force prevent to stop attackers from getting into your files
  • Automatic security patching so that as soon as new security holes are discovered, the system can patch them up automatically.
namehero review security shield

An awesome suite of security that makes the blogger’s job easy by not having to worry about any security threats!

Additionally, you also get the security benefits that come with the usual cPanel interface such as Hotlink Protection.

Hotlink protection helps people from stealing your pictures, which consumes server bandwidth. It’s included with most web hosting services.

In the cPanel interface, you can also upgrade to PHP 8.0, which will additionally help with website speed.

There’s the option to upgrade to PHP 8.1, but as some plugins aren’t compatible with 8.1 yet, 8.0 is safe for now, plus it’s supposedly faster than 8.1.

[Security] Name Hero Hosting Review – Free SSL Certificate

Namehero like any quality web hosting offers a Free SSL Certificate for every plan so you won’t have to worry about a non-secure website.

SSL stands for Secure Sockets Layer and it’s a sign indicating that the information visitors share on your website is safe (like credit card info).

You can tell a website has [Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) Certificate] protection because on your browser you’ll likely see a padlock icon 🔒 followed by an “https” instead of just “http.”

They have an upgrade to their premium SSL certificate (which they recommend for e-commerce sites), but I find that their basic SSL is enough for most people.

Name Hero Review Advanced SSL

[Security] NameHero Review – Automated Daily Backups

They also have an upgrade version for this, but I think most people should be fine with their nightly + weekly backups.

The backups are automated and they are also available in cPanel for no additional cost and give you a stress-free hosting experience.

[Security] NameHero Review – Free Website Migration

By getting any of their plans, you can request to have a site migrated by opening up a ticket.

Their plans include 1 free migration and you have to request it within 30 days of your order.

The name hero migration includes cPanel migration as well along with the databases, emails, etc and it should be less than 8GB of compressed space.

You can also do this manually by the way, if that’s the route you want to go with.

Migration is important because if you already have an existing website, you might want to use their migration service.

If you’re ready to migrate over to NameHero, click here to do so right now.

Name Hero Hosting Review – Support

name hero review support

Namehero’s support team appropriately named the SuperHero Support Team is one of the best in the industry.

I still think they are behind WPX Hosting support, but are still at the top of their class.

They have three ways to connect with the SuperHero, Namehero Team:

  • Live Chat
  • Email
  • What they call Rapid Response Level III Support (Ticketing system)

They have a ton of helpful articles to read if you’re having any technical issues as well.

Some examples of their articles:

As I mentioned they also have a Youtube channel you can check out for speed tips and tutorials to superhero your website!

Best Value for Money Plan?

If you’re a beginner blogger who just wants to get a website up and running, go with their Starter Cloud. It’ll be enough to get you started.

If you’re looking for the best bang for the buck option (and the speed option) then I would opt for the Turbo Cloud plan.

There really isn’t such a great value for high-speed cloud web hosting like Namehero.

For VPS & Dedicated, 95% of you don’t need to worry about this.
You’ll know when you need it when you’ve maxed out resources for Namehero’s shared hosting plans.

Namehero Things to Watch Out For

Additional Costs & Upgrades

When you go to check out, you’ll get these extra upgrades:

  • 3 years is the default plan, but you can easily switch this to 2 years or 1 year (it’ll cost more per month if you lower it)
  • They have a Premium Auto Backups option, that starts at $5.98 for 5GB, but most won’t need this as nightly backups are already included.
  • There’s an automatic Malware scanning with file cleanup for $5.00 if you want that option.
  • They also have a premium Auto SSL + Wildcard SSL for $299.95 and they claim it’s best for e-commerce and business websites, but most will be fine with the default SSL.

And that’s it!

Most hosting providers will have upsells pre-checked, but NameHero doesn’t, so it’s refreshing to see!

The only thing they do have pre-checked:

Autorenewal:
Your service will be charged per amount of years you have chosen.

So make sure if you want to cancel, you make note of this date.

One thing I could recommend for your hosting account is ID protection.
It costs $6 per year and it prevents spam.

NameHero Review 2024 Conclusion: Should You Get It?

I would definitely recommend Namehero.

It’s not just good hosting, it’s an amazing hosting solution.
The many user reviews on Trustpilot are evidence that this is truly a pioneer in the web hosting industry.

I love it when new companies come into the scene and innovate their way to the top.
Namehero exists because they saw a problem that no one was fixing, so they decided to fix it themselves by creating a hosting company that is both fast, cheap, and easy to use for absolute beginners.

I think their hosting is phenomenal, especially for the price.

My suggestion is to try them out for a year or two and to go for their Turbo plan because there’s where you’ll see the most speed benefits.

Your blog is an asset that you own, so you want to place your asset on something very reliable.

It’s an amazing value and I hope Namehero can help you along your entrepreneurial journey. Give them a shot now while it’s fresh on your mind, and don’t delay your creation.
